Being a web designer, you have two modes: Working, and worrying about work.
Because let’s be honest, how many of us wait til the last second to finally get to work on a project, pulling all nighters on something that could’ve been finished already if we’d only devoted an hour a day to it?
So, any web designer in his right mind really should invest in an iPhone so as to get some work done on the go. Here are some great, one hundred percent free apps you can use on your iPhone…
Twitteriffic
If you don’t mind ads, there’s a totally free version of this app, which is pretty much just a great little Twitter client, some say perhaps the best overall Twitter client in the app store, free or not. Perfect if you like to use Twitter to keep clients updated, if you’ve landed a ghost-blogging job, or if you just like to keep updates on the new sites you’re working on. You’ll find it at iconfactory.com/software/twitteriffic
iWantMyName
A free “DomainApp” that is an absolute necessity for each and every web designer. It lets you check and register domain names right from your iPhone. It’s perfect for when you’re meeting a client or on the phone brainstorming domain names together. Find it at iwantmyname.com/iphone
Web Developer Bible
Cool little all in one, one hundred percent free developer’s reference tool, featuring c-format strings, HTML entitities, RGB to Hex codes, special characters and URL coding. Not quite as exciting or as fun to play with as some of the other apps on this list, but definitely a necessity for all website designers. Find it at the iTunes store at itunes.apple.com
SEM Calculator
Neat little calculator app that helps you track your SEM campaigns with CPM, CPA and CPL calculators for email campaigns. If you don’t know what all those initials stand for, don’t worry, they’re defined in the app! If you use a pay-per-click or PPC marketing scheme, you need to download the SEM calculator right now. Find it at itunes.apple.com
WebFight Lite
Another one from the official iTunes store. It’s kind of a goofy little gadget, but can be great if you’re trying to score some SEO points and need to figure out which terms or phrases are more popular. The free version is supported by ads, but it’s well worth it if you’re hoping to bump up your Google hits.
Analytics Lite
One more from the official iTunes store.. Analaytics Lite is the free version of Analytics Pro, offered by Zap Bang Done. It’s ad-supported, but you get an overview of your visitors, traffic sources, content overview, ecommerce overview, and even a map overlay showing where all of your visitors are from in case you want to gear your content specifically towards your most frequent users.
ColorRef
ColorRef is another one from the official iTunes store., and really a cool little bit of software for deciding on color schemes. You can compare colors in a scheme by adding them to your pallette, you can also automatically convert the colors in hex, RGB or CoreGraphics format. The only downside is that you have to input colors via RGB, so you may get thrown off having to adjust the color values, but, as far as free apps go for color scheming, this is one of the best.
